My spin on Brian Johnson’s Nutty Pudding - Blood Building + Seed Cycling
I’ve recently gotten into Brian Johnson’s content and decided to give his protocol a try, starting with Nutty Pudding. I was already looking for a way to reduce decision fatigue around breakfast, so knowing exactly what I’ll eat every morning has been really helpful. I’ve made a few adjustments to the original recipe as I’m also working on integrating more TCM habits into my life, like eating at the same time every day (8:30 am for breakfast) and focusing on blood-building foods.
My body, when looked at from a TCM lens, suggest there is blood deficiency so I’ve added goji berry powder to the ingredient list. I’m also trying to be disciplined about seed cycling so I top my pudding with pumpkin seeds during the first half of my cycle and sunflower seeds during the latter part.
My review of Nutty Pudding: The first time I tried Nutty Pudding, I put protein powder as a topping and that was all sorts of awful. Instead of topping with a chalky protein powder, I instead make a mid morning shake with protein powder and other apothecary favorites. As I said, my favorite thing about nutty pudding is that I always know what I will have for breakfast, but of course this might be a negative for someone who loves switching up their meals. The not so great thing about my version of nutty pudding is that, because I use frozen fruit, it is cold. Since TCM recommends avoiding cold foods, I warm a little milk and pour it in to balance that. After a month of Nutty Pudding breakfasts, I do feel healthier. But, unlike the most measured man on earth, I have no data to show for it, so you’ll have to take my word for it:)
Here’s a link to the recipe on the blueprint website. Below is my spin.
